The module “Health Psychology and Counselling” offers the opportunity to deepen or expand professional skills in the field of health psychology and health promotion.

- Introduction to health psychology
- Psychological models and social cognitive concepts of health behaviour
- Setting-oriented and participatory intervention approaches
- Tailored design: intervention mapping
- Target group-specific needs and resource assessment
- Model-based goal setting and implementation planning
- Psychological concepts and models of communication and counselling
- Designing conversation situations, conversation techniques, and counselling
Learning outcomes
Upon completion of the module, participants will be able to:
- Identify relevant fields of application for health psychology
- Analyse and model health psychology based on theory
- Systematically determine and address problem areas, target groups, and intervention goals
- Design and implement concrete psychological measures to promote biopsychosocial health
- Select and apply communication and conversation techniques in a tailored manner
- Recognise counseling needs and design counseling situations appropriately
- Identify and reflect on aspects of human perception, thinking and experience
Target group and prerequisites
Professionals working in the fields of health promotion, prevention and rehabilitation (e.g., physiotherapy, sports science, nutrition science, medicine, health management and health professions).
Reading skills in English are required; classes are held in German.
Prerequisites
Admission to a contact study programme generally requires a university degree or vocational training in a relevant profession as well as at least one year of professional experience.
Format
The module is offered in a blended learning format. It is a one-semester part-time course with two weekends of classroom teaching. Together with the module “Internal link opens in the same window:Occupational Health Promotion in Theory and Practice” it leads to a Certificate of Advanced Studies (CAS).
