For employees with customer contact at colleges and universities
Verbal attacks and violent assaults are unfortunately no longer isolated incidents in the higher education context. The shooting rampage at Heidelberg University and threatening emails sent to universities have highlighted criminal phenomena that can compromise safety at universities. We want to address these issues in order to promote awareness of preventive measures and ensure that we are prepared for such dangerous situations.
Learning objectives and content
We address the following individual aspects:
- Phenomenology of violence in the workplace/rampage
- Criminal classification
- Risk-oriented workplace design
- Recommended behavior in the event of an incident
- Basis for the use of force (everyone's rights)
- Communication, stress, de-escalation
- Conducting conversations and dealing with verbal attacks and threats
- Tips for personal safety
Target group and prerequisites
Employees with customer contact at colleges and universities. For both teaching staff and employees in the faculties and central administrative departments.
Prerequisites
Admission to a contact study programme generally requires a university degree or vocational training in a relevant profession, as well as at least one year of professional experience.
A maximum of 15 places are available.
