Understanding and classifying modern energy storage systems
This continuing education course provides a concise and practical introduction to the design and operation of modern energy storage systems. It focuses on architectural variants, cell chemistries, aging mechanisms and key technical metrics − with regard to industrial applications and current development requirements.
Learning outcomes and content
- Technical design of an energy storage system
- Architecture: cell-to-module/module-to-pack vs. cell-to-pack
- Battery management system
- Cell chemistry and its differences (energy density, safety, cost, and cycle life)
- Cell aging and factors influencing it (SEI growth, lithium plating, etc.)
- Production processes / Manufacturing processes
- Benchmarking of cells and relevant technical data for energy storage systems
Target group and prerequisites
Suitable for employees in development, design, production, testing, quality management and related fields.
Requirements for participation are:
- completed vocational training OR
- a degree from a university of applied sciences
- In addition, at least one year of professional experience is required.
A basic understanding of technical matters is helpful but not a mandatory requirement.
