Using new technology to combat impairments

Individual socio-technical arrangements for the social participation of people with cognitive functional impairments

The aim of the project is to promote the social participation of those with impaired cognitive functions. Through the development of appropriate strategies and practical solutions, those with a cognitive functional impairment, as well as their relatives and carers, will be empowered to adopt new technologies in the field of consumer technology (e.g. navigation, language assistance systems, tablets, networked objects).

The "InstAgT" project can be seen as a direct contribution to the implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UN-CRPD) which states that on the basis of equal rights, social barriers should be removed using appropriate measures to ensure full and effective participation. The digitalised nature of our society means that socio-technical arrangements using new technologies offer great opportunities for the removal of social barriers. This project is therefore at the interface between standard types of assistance for the disabled and the independent and self-determined participation of those with disabilities.

  • Contribution to implementation of UN-CRPD The UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities states that appropriate measures should be used to ensure full and effective participation in society.
  • Development of strategies and practical solutions The strategies and practical solutions being developed will enable those with cognitive impairment, as well as their families and carers, to use modern consumer technology.
  • Removal of social barriers Being empowered to use new consumer technology, such as tablets, navigation and language assistance systems, will ensure the cognitively impaired can participate fully and effectively in society.
