Lifestyle, Mental Health and Quality of Life among People with Dementia and Caregivers: Knowledge Transfer and Strategies for Implementation of Current Community Care Concepts in the Dominican Republic and Germany

Increasing life expectancy makes non-communicable diseases such as dementia an important issue for the healthcare system and its providers. Although prevalence rates in low-income countries are currently lower than in high-income countries, the number of people affected in these countries is expected to increase disproportionately in the future due to the rapid aging of the population.

Within the framework of the project, scientists and students from Furtwangen University and the Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra in Santiago de los Caballeros in the Dominican Republic will address the various aspects and new scientific findings in the care of people with dementia. The main goal is to integrate current knowledge in the sense of a global health approach into health-related courses of study and thus to expand a well-founded cooperation between the two universities.
