Additive finishing of super abrasive grinding tools

In the finishing of high-quality precision components the last step in the work process is often grinding. The trend to customization of projects means small batch sizes. As a result manufacturers of grinding tools must react in an increasingly flexible manner to customer requirements. Additive finishing offers the possibility to fulfill these demands.

The aim of this project is the realization and testing of a fluid-material-based process for the additive finishing of synthetic resin and hybrid-bonded diamond and CBN grinding tools. Individual workstep goals include a description of a viable formulation of the starting material, plant engineering which delivers a reproducable process result, and completely characterized test specimens of additive manufactured grinding tools with diamond and CBN grains.
