Precision Manufacturing and Management

Master of Science

Part-time master's degree in Mechanical Engineering

In the world of manufacturing where technology and digitalisation are becoming increasingly complex, the demand for specialists who can work at the interface between intelligent machines/plant and manufacturing technologies is growing. A knowledge of both engineering and management skills will boost your future career.

The External link opens in a new window:Institute for Precision Machining (KSF), one of the best known research institutes in Germany in the field of precision machining, plays a central role in the programme. The outstanding research skills of the KSF are integrated into the research modules of the master's programme.

Programme structure

Practical content is taught in the KSF Lab in the Innovation and Research (IFC) Building in Tuttlingen. The Innovation and Research Center, which opened its doors in the summer of 2018, focuses mainly on research, providing R&D facilities for technology-oriented companies, entrepreneurs and start ups.

Lectures are held on one workday a week at most, in addition to Saturdays, making it ideal for combining study with a full-time job.

What makes the study programme special

The programme is based on four pillars - Precision and Additive Manufacturing, Machine Learning, Modeling and Simulation, Digitalised Manufacturing and Industry 4.0, and Manufacturing and Innovation Management and a two-semester research project. The research modules, as an essential part of the degree, allow you to apply what you have learned in a practical way in industry or at KSF.

Graduates of the Precision Manufacturing and Management programme work in future-oriented high-technology industries that secure jobs and prosperity and contribute to increasing efficiency in precision manufacturing. Graduates possess well-rounded interdisciplinary scientific, communication, management, and leadership skills that enable them to work independently in diverse career fields and lead innovative teams.

Student testimonials

"One advantage of the PMM degree programme is the compatibility of study and work. Due to the close linking of academic content to practice, the knowledge learned in the course of study can be directly applied at work. The great experience of the lecturers in industry and research, but also the practical professional experience of fellow students create an interesting exchange during the lectures." Tobias Möhrle

"I chose this degree programme mainly because it combines technology and management, and because I can continue working at the same time. I am very satisfied with the additional knowledge I have acquired and can only recommend the degree programme, especially to those who aspire to a management position in an industrial company." Corine Ngadeu Yapi

"The Precision Manufacturing and Management degree programme offers the optimal combination of manufacturing and management courses. The individual choice of research topics and project work in each subject is particularly noteworthy. This allows students to further develop their skills in their desired areas, which are important for their own career paths. The lecturers' many years of industry experience always guaranteed a very high level of teaching." Jochen Gür
