Midwifery Science application process

Explained step by step

Please note that the application procedures at the relevant training institutions start and end significantly earlier than the HFU application deadline. Find out about the application period in good time from our partner institutions.

Step 1: Application

Apply with your application documents to one or several of our approved training institutions, where you would like to carry out the practical training part of your degree. Click here for a Internal link opens in the same window:list of approved training institutions.

Note: Some of our practice partners have already started their application procedures for the start of Winter Semester 2022/23.

Your application should include the following documents:

  • University entrance qualification (12 years of school) or vocational training qualification as a Healthcare Assistant (Gesundheits-/Kinder-/KrankenpflegerIn nach §10 HebG)
  • Proof of proficiency in German for foreign and stateless applicants (language level CEF C1, e.g., DSH-2, TestDaF min. TDN4)

Please note: our approved training institutions may have additional application requirements (e.g. CV, letter of motivation). Therefore please check the application requirements at each institution before applying.

Step 2: Sign a work contract

After you have been accepted by the hospital, sign a student contract for academic midwifery training with that hospital. This contract will reserve you a place in the Midwifery Science programme. To confirm this, proceed to step 3.

Note: To conclude the student contract, you will need an official proof of good conduct and a Download file:medical certificate (both issued within the previous three months).

Step 3: Application on the online portal of Furtwangen University by 1 July deadline

With your complete application documents, you can now register on the university portal of our university at External link opens in a new window: and upload your application documents there.

Note: An application via is not required.

Step 4: Acceptance and matriculation at the university
If your application documents are complete, you can enroll at HFU. You will then receive information from HFU regarding further procedures (semester fee, enrollment, etc.).
