You already have experience in the instruction of midwives-to-be?

Transitional regulations exist for midwives who have already worked as practical instructors until 31 December, 2019. Does this apply to you? Then have your experience as a practical instructor confirmed (e.g. by a midwifery school for which you worked) and provide proof of this to the relevant authority. The Freiburg Regional Council is responsible for the midwifery programme at HFU. This enables you to continue to work as a practical instructor without an additional qualification.

CPD - Practical Instructor in Midwifery

You have already completed professional training as a Practical Instructor in Midwifery and would like to continue to accompany young midwives-to-be in their practical study phases as a practical instructor? If so, we offer you the opportunity to take part in top-quality, interesting continuing professional development (CPD) at HFU. Four times a year, two half-days online and two full-days on-site, we offer you challenging topics in the field of midwifery. This means that you can complete the legally required continuing professional training of at least 24 hours per year with us. Through the cooperation with the HFU Academie, you will be issued a corresponding certificate recognised by regional councils, which shows the topics covered in the CPD course.
Please see the table below for up-coming dates and topics as well as information on registration. The link will take you directly to the HFU Academie page, where you must register. Please also note the registration deadline. Unfortunately registrations made after the deadline cannot be accepted.

We look forward to welcoming you on our CPD courses.

Practical instruction by freelance midwives

You're a freelance midwife and would like to work with students?

Then you're in the right place!

During the practical phases of their studies, especially in the out-of-hospital settings, the students, and thus we as a study programme, depend on professionally qualified practical support from freelance midwives, who introduce our future colleagues to the field of work of a midwife. And who could do that better than you!

Interested? Then here is some further information.

In order to work as a freelance midwife as a practical instructor for our students, you need a contract with one of our practice facilities or, alternatively, you can join the university's Practice Partner Association.
As an instructor of one or more of our students you will be remunerated with €6,600 per assignment (480hrs) per student. In addition, you will also be reimbursed for any costs incurred for further training as a practical instructor.

Prerequisites are the legally required Practical Instructor in Midwifery qualification as well as the annual 24 hours of continuing professional development (CPD).
