The medical engineering programme on the Tuttlingen Campus combines medicine and engineering, digitalisation with product management and regulatory affairs with product development. As a medical engineer, you will be shaping medical advances and helping people stay healthy!

The medical engineering programme in the world centre of medical technology focuses on the planning, realisation, development and approval of instruments, medical devices and systems, and the relevant production processes. So HFU is training engineers on the Tuttlingen Campus in the technology of the future for one of the world's fastest-growing sectors. The medical engineering degree at the Faculty of Industrial Technologies is the first step in your successful career. It is workplace relevant and run in close cooperation with the medical technology firms in the region.

Programme content

In the first 2 semesters of the 7-semester bachelor's programme you will focus on the principles of engineering. In the advanced semesters you will choose one of the following areas of specialization: Product and Process Management, Instruments and Devices, or Digitalisation and Computer-Assisted Systems. These profiles make the programmes on the model campus in Tuttlingen unique in Germany.

Product and Process Management area of specialisation

Focuses on product management and marketing, quality assurance, regulatory affairs and the planning of workplace processes.

Instruments and Devices area of specialisation

Focuses on the design and planning of medical products such as implants and endoscopic devices.

Digitalisation and computer-assisted systems

Helps to shape modern computer-assisted and digitalized medicine.

Study Medical Engineering "Powered by industry"

The Medical Engineering bachelor's programme on the Tuttlingen Campus is run in close cooperation with industry. The companies in the Friends of University Campus Tuttlingen sponsoring society are actively involved in shaping and teaching the Medical Engineering programme. The programme is therefore workplace relevant and right up-to-date: visits to various companies take place and student projects are actually carried out there. Practicals are also held onsite in the companies. A lecture series featuring lectures by experts from industry and a mentoring programme also underline our close cooperation with industry. So as a student, you gain deeper insights into the field of medical engineering, as well as the everyday work and demands of engineers working in this field.
