The Industrial Materials Engineering programme in Tuttlingen deals with the application and processing of innovative materials. The programme focuses on the use and design of modern materials and the materials used in all areas of engineering, particularly medical engineering. Industrial Materials Engineering is a creative, interdisciplinary degree programme. Materials engineers work at the interface between engineering, chemistry and physics.

The processing and research of materials is a specialist area which is fundamentally different from classical mechanical engineering, with materials playing a central role. Materials scientists or engineers research new materials and improve existing ones, making products more durable or intelligent. To do so, materials engineers test chemical structures, mechanical properties and suitable production processes. This knowledge is crucially important for the development or further development of products. It is this know-how that is taught on the Industrial Materials Engineering programme at the Faculty of Industrial Technologies.

Materials Engineering students study with 100 companies

The Materials Engineering programme at the University Campus Tuttlingen is run in close cooperation with industry. More than 100 companies belong to the Friends of University Campus Tuttlingen and are actively involved in the setting up and teaching of the programme curriculum. The course is therefore workplace relevant and highly current: student projects actually take place in the various companies. This gives students insights into the field of materials engineering and materials sciences, as well as the everyday work and demands of engineers working in this field.
