The strength of high-tech is in the detail!
The Industrial Materials Engineering programme in Tuttlingen deals with the application and processing of innovative materials. The programme focuses on the use and design of modern materials and the materials used in all areas of engineering, particularly medical engineering. Industrial Materials Engineering is a creative, interdisciplinary degree programme. Materials engineers work at the interface between engineering, chemistry and physics.
The processing and research of materials is a specialist area which is fundamentally different from classical mechanical engineering, with materials playing a central role. Materials scientists or engineers create new materials and improve existing ones, making products more durable or more intelligent. To do so, materials engineers test chemical structures, mechanical properties and suitable production processes. This knowledge is crucially important for the development or further development of products. It is this know-how that is taught on the Industrial Materials Engineering programme.
