Industrial Automation and Mechatronics

Bachelor of Science

Produce intelligent systems for tomorrow's world!

They are in industrial robots, digital cameras and door openers: nowadays electronic components are integrated into many products with many different applications. That's why specialists with interdisciplinary know-how are in high demand in the mechanical engineering, systems engineering, medical engineering and industrial electronics sectors. The mechatronics programme on the Tutttlingen Campus of Furtwangen University is the answer to this demand. The combination of the core engineering disciplines of mechanics, electronics and IT in this bachelor programme provides the interdisciplinary knowledge specialists need.

Examples of mechatronic systems are robots, plant with autonomous tensioning systems, self-driving vehicles, contact free air or magnet bearings or intelligent systems such as the "Smart Home".

In the 7-semester programme, besides studying engineering principles, students deepen their knowledge in such areas as robotics, automation technology and digital technology. Because increasing digitalization in industry and society, and the 4th industrial revolution demand intelligent systems.

Focus areas of the programme

  • Robotics
  • Measurement and control technology
  • Drive technology
  • Digital technology
  • Automatization technology

Career opportunities

Mechatronics graduates of the Industrial Automation and Mechatronics programme develop mechatronics systems, and design and implement automation solutions. They provide a vital impetus for the automation and digitalization of processes and products. The demand for specialists is therefore extremely high - higher than the supply.

Fields of employment

  • Development and design of mechatronic systems
  • Commissioning of complex systems
  • Assembly and automation technology
  • Implementation of automation solutions
  • Quality assurance

Industrial Automation and Mechatronics students study with 100 companies

The Industrial Automation and Mechatronics programme at the University Campus Tuttlingen is run in close cooperation with industry. More than 100 companies belong to the Friends of University Campus Tuttlingen and are actively involved in the setting up and teaching of the programme curriculum. The course is therefore workplace relevant and highly current: student projects actually take place in the various companies. This gives students insights into the field of mechatronics as well as the everyday work and demands of engineers working in this field.
