Details of the programme

Programme content and structure

More than language skills

HFU.Prep is primarily about German language skills. But it is also about your individually selectable subject expertise. This means that if you already know now that you want to study mechanical engineering later, we will find courses in this area for you in the HFU degrees we offer. We also offer courses on learning strategies and academic writing.

Entry requirements

Language level for entry

In order to complete the HFU.Prep programme as a preparatory semester, you need German language skills at CEFR level B1*/B2 with a German certificate (CEFR = Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) and a university entrance qualification for studying at a German university.
*We recommend B2 as the entry level for HFU.Prep. If you have a solid B1 level and, ideally, have already attended at least one B2 course, you can also be accepted into the programme without a B2 certificate.

How much does it cost?

Participation in HFU.Prep is free of charge. However, all students at Furtwangen University must pay semester fees of €149 per semester.
You must also pay the fees for the certificate examination (TestDaF, DSH or similar) yourself.
Fees may apply for subsequent regular studies in Germany.
