Scholarship opportunities

Please note that the scholarships listed below are all offered by external organizations, not through the Business Consulting Master's programme or Furtwangen University. Our department has no influence on any decision made by scholarship organizations. Please contact the scholarship provider directly for further information.

General Information regarding scholarships

Eligibility: All degree-seeking international students enrolled in bachelor's or master's programmes are eligible.

Prerequisites: 

Graduation scholarship:

  • Students have achieved good grades and graduation is expected within one year
  • Graduation Scholarship can be granted for a maximum of six months

Scholarships for students who have shown a high level of commitment to fellow-students:

  • Students have achieved good grades and have demonstrated commitment in an international context at the university
  • Scholarship can be granted for 12 months. In exceptional cases an extension may be granted.

Scholarship amount: Generally €300 per month at HFU.
Duration: Generally 2 – 4 months at HFU.
Application deadlines: Applications are received twice a year provided the funds are granted by the DAAD. Application deadlines are generally during the beginning of March and September.
Application documents: The following documents are required in order to apply for this scholarship:

  • Application form
  • CV (European format)
  • Certificate of enrolment
  • Current transcript of records stating all exams (passed and not passed)
  • Copy of passport incl. residence permit
  • Letter of recommendation by a professor (only applicable for Graduation Scholarship)

Schmalenbach Scholarship

Eligibility: All degree-seeking students at universities in Germany, Austria and Switzerland in a business-oriented master's degree programme. When equally qualified students apply for financial support, students with greater financial hardship will be given priority.

Prerequisites:

  • High standards of competence, initiative and social responsibility
  • Proof of financial hardship (BaföG report or similar)
  • Professional qualifications measured by university and school performance
  • Involvement in social, charitable or political institutions and organizations

Scholarship amount: Students will receive an allowance in the amount of €500 per semester. Financial support takes the form of books and/or money. In addition, fellows must participate in the activities of Schmalenbach Society for Business Research Promotion.
Duration:The maximum duration is two years (four semesters).  After one year of study, progress of scholarship holder is checked.
Application deadlines: Deadlines for Schmalenbach scholarship are generally at the end of November.
Application documents:The following documents are required in order to apply for this scholarship:

  • Motivation letter
  • Detailed curriculum vitae
  • Letter of recommendation from a supervising university professor
  • Certificate of enrolment
  • Bachelor's Certificate
  • High school diploma
  • Proof of a social commitment
  • Possibly BaföG decision or similar document issued by a financial support

A. Wilhelm Klein Foundation

Eligibility:  All degree-seeking students at universities
Prerequisites:

  • Course of study must either lead to a professional qualification or should be directly related to a profession
  • Applications for initial or first professional training preferred
  • Training at foreign educational institutions only funded if of particular importance for the career advancement of candidate
  • Applicants should demonstrate superior performance in previous work or education

Scholarship amount: Students will normally be granted an allowance up to €500 per month.
Duration: This scholarship is granted for a maximum of one calendar year or for a shorter total duration of a training programme. It is usually provided for the time within which the training programme is (semester / trimester) normally carried out and completed.
Application deadlines: Applications are accepted for the summer semester until mid-February and for the winter semester until mid-July.

KAAD Scholarship Programme 1

Eligibility:  For the scholarship programme 1 of KAAD you can apply if you:

  • Come from a developing or emerging country in Africa, Asia, the Middle East or Latin America and are currently living there
  • Have a university degree and professional experience from your home country
  • Want to acquire a master's degree or a PhD at a German university or do a post-doctoral research project (2-6 months for established university lecturers) at a German university.
  • Are a Catholic Christian (or belong to a Christian denomination). Candidates from other religions may apply if they are proposed by Catholic partners and can prove their commitment to inter-religious dialogue
  • Possess German language skills before starting studies (KAAD can provide a language course of max. 6 months in Germany)
  • Applications from other countries can be considered only in exceptional cases

Prerequisites:

  • Above-average performance in studies and research
  • Orientation of studies or research is towards permanent reintegration in home region (otherwise the scholarship is converted into a loan)
  • Religious and social commitment activities and committment to inter-religious dialogue

Eligibility:  Applications for the KAAD Scholarship Programme 2 are accepted if you:

Official Details: It is not possible to send a direct application to the KAAD. Scholarship applications are only administered by the campus church congregations of German universities (in our case the Catholic University Congregation Furtwangen).

Cusanuswerk

Eligibility:The Catholic Church grants full scholarships to:

  • Catholic 1st semester students
  • Doctoral students

Scholarship amount: Catholic 1st semester students (max. €897 per month), doctoral students (max. €1450 per month)
Prerequisites:An early application with a professional appraisal of a professor and a high school report. For the latter, an interview with Hr. Schlegel in Furtwangen, who currently runs campus-transnational with interested students, is necessary.

Eligibility: The Protestant Church supports students and postgraduate students.
Prerequisites: Affiliation to the Protestant Church is not a prerequisite for support.

  • postgraduate students (€1450 per month)

Catholic Academic Foreign Student Service (Katholischer Akademische Ausländerdienst)

Eligibility: Financial support to cover the cost of living for foreign students taking a master's degree. Intended to support development policy, with the aim of reintegration in home country after study.
Prerequisites: Membership of a Christian church is not a prerequisite for support.
Application deadlines: Application is possible before or after arrival from the home country.
