“At informatica feminale Baden-Württemberg, the focus is not only on professional development but, above all, on personal exchange among women working in the field of computer science,” says Carolin Hilzendegen from Furtwangen University (HFU). Over 100 participants, including female students and professionals, took part in the five-day event held at the University of Freiburg. They were able to choose from 15 up-to-date specialist and social skills courses, attend panel discussions or take part in one of the numerous workshops. The topics ranged from programming and an insight into the Haufe Group Academy to valuable networking tips. Other sessions covered digital forensics, medical informatics, drone construction and project management.
A particular highlight was the keynote speech on ‘Future by Design – helping to shape tomorrow’s reality with AI’, delivered by Dipl. Ing. Anika Holtermüller. Her talk covered not only artificial intelligence but also women, society, sustainability and ethics. The educational programme was rounded off by a varied social programme featuring a visit to the women’s outdoor swimming pool, comic and theatre workshops, a networking evening and a pop-up cafeteria.
“I really liked the openness and relaxed atmosphere. There was room for individuality, yet at the same time everyone was an integral part of a group. I was also struck by the respectful and open way everyone interacted with one another,” said one participant, describing her experience.
Preparations for the next event organised by the F.I.T. network are already underway: on 28 November, the one-day ‘informatica feminale BW *ON TOUR*’ will take place at the DHBW Karlsruhe. This will be followed in March 2027 by meccanica feminale, the counterpart event for female students and professionals, particularly from the fields of engineering, mechanical engineering and electrical engineering.
