The Summer School at Furtwangen University kicks off with two exciting lectures
Summer is science season — at Furtwangen University (HFU), the Summer School kicks off with two lectures. In this popular series, HFU experts present scientific topics and offer vivid insights into the world of research.
The kickoff event on Friday, 31 July, is aimed particularly at families and young people interested in science. At the event “Pediatric Surgery – First Aid for and by Children and Adolescents,” participants will learn how important age-appropriate first-aid skills are and how even young people can act competently in emergency situations. Prof. Dr. Constanze Kiese will share practical knowledge and demonstrate how young people can take responsibility for the health of others from an early age. The lecture begins at 11.00am in Room O 0.10 at Luisenstraße 17 on the Furtwangen Campus and is open to the public, free of charge without prior registration.
On the same day at 2.00pm, the lecture “Mould as a Lifesaver” will focus on Penicillium, the “Microbe of the Year.” At the Furtwangen Campus, Prof. Dr. Markus Egert will introduce this unassuming mould, whose discovery led to the development of penicillin and continues to save millions of lives to this day. At the same time, the lecture will highlight the fungus’s broader significance for food production and biotechnology. The lecture will take place in Room O 0.10 at Luisenstraße 17 on the Furtwangen campus and is also free of charge and open to the public without prior registration.
The Summer School will offer academic “aha” moments until September on the HFU campuses in Furtwangen, Schwenningen and Freiburg.
