Prof. Weber demonstrating an oxyhydrogen gas explosion
Prospective students conduct experiments on ignition sources
During the Whitsun holidays in early June, Furtwangen University once again offered prospective students the opportunity to simply give university a go. The academic team of the Security & Safety Engineering programme taught on the Furtwangen campus had put together a spectacular programme. The prospective students first received an introduction from Prof. Arno Weber, who spoke about the programme and explained the career prospects for safety engineers. The students then spent the next three hours in the HFU’s Hazardous Materials Lab, where Prof. Weber discussed various ignition sources and demonstrated different experiments. Afterward, during a group lunch, there was a lively exchange with current students.
In the afternoon, the group visited the Laboratory for Technical Occupational Safety and the Security Laboratory. An introduction to security and safety topics was further provided by addressing questions related to everyday student life. Finally, members of the Students' Union (AStA), who are also enrolled in the SSB degree programme, spoke about life and housing in Furtwangen as well as the wide range of recreational activities offered by the Students' Union.
