Great experiences on Girls'/Boys' Day at HFU

During Girls’/Boys’ Day at the end of April, students at Furtwangen University gained inspiring insights into various degree programmes. Among the many activities offered, boys were able to get a taste of the midwifery programme, for example, while girls learned exciting facts about fire and disaster protection from Prof. Dr. Marion Meinert and Dr. Manuela Rösch − from an impressive demonstration of how fire spreads and discussions on disaster management and protection strategies, right through to hands-on exercises − the event covered it all. In our Hazardous Materials Laboratory, participants were able to conduct their own experiments under the guidance of Sabine Grimm (Operations Manager, Hazardous Materials Laboratory) and Kai Bruns (Risk, Reliability and Safety Engineering master’s student). In addition, a session led by Lena Kraibühler (Risk, Reliability and Safety Engineering master’s student) focused on emergency planning − What do you actually need to be prepared in an emergency?

Girls’/Boys’ Day at HFU is a day full of learning, teamwork and exciting experiments − and may provide initial ideas for future careers.

Girls’/Boys’ Day takes place once a year, nationwide. “Girls’ Future Day” aims to help expand career opportunities for girls in promising professional fields where they have been underrepresented to date − particularly in information technology, the natural sciences and skilled trades − in order to improve their prospects in the job market, their career paths and their earning potential. For boys, “Boys’ Future Day” is intended to provide an opportunity to learn about careers in which men are still underrepresented, particularly those in the social, educational and caregiving fields.
