Prof. Dr. Arno Weber represents Furtwangen University on the Committee for Occupational Health and Safety (ASGA) at the Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs (BMAS). The newly appointed committee recently began its work with a constituent meeting in the Stahlhalle at DASA in Dortmund, the German Occupational Health and Safety Exhibition — as part of the committee day for all newly appointed occupational health and safety committees.

The ASGA was established in accordance with Section 24a of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and consists of 15 volunteer members and 15 alternate members. The committee brings together expertise on health and safety in the workplace and serves as a key advisory body for the BMAS. It assesses the state of the art in technology, occupational medicine and hygiene, as well as other established findings from occupational science regarding the health and safety of employees; develops guidelines and insights on how the requirements of the Occupational Health and Safety Act can be met in practice; and issues recommendations on health and safety at work. In addition, the committee advises the BMAS on occupational health and safety issues in a changing world of work and provides technical coordination for the work of the advisory occupational health and safety committees when issues affect more than two of the specialised committees.

The ASGA works closely with the other occupational health and safety committees at the Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs. Through the involvement of Prof. Weber, who also serves as spokesperson for the committee’s academic group, the HFU contributes its expertise in ergonomics and safety directly to the further development of occupational health and safety in Germany.
