Lecture on UX Design for Airway Management at Furtwangen University
How should devices be designed so that they can be operated intuitively even in a stressful emergency situation? This question is the focus of the next event in the Furtwangen University (HFU) “Brains behind the Tech” series. The “When Seconds Count: UX Design for Airway Management” lecture will take place on Wednesday, 17 June. HFU alumni Florian Kromer and Tobias Gehring will illustrate the influence of engineering psychology on modern medical technology. Using the example of a new airway monitor, they will demonstrate that development must focus not only on technology but also on people.
Florian Kromer has an Engineering Psychology degree and is now a product designer at KARL STORZ. He designs digital products with a focus on holistic system experiences exploring how to design complex technology so that it provides intuitive support at critical moments.
After completing his training as a mechatronics technician, Tobias Gehring’s curiosity about “How do people actually interact with products?” led him to study Engineering Psychology at HFU. Today, Gehring works as a usability engineer at KARL STORZ designing software, instruments and devices which truly support users in their daily work.
The free event begins at 6.30pm on the HFU Tuttlingen Campus (Kronenstraße 16) in Room AE.01. The lecture starts at 7.00pm and will also be livestreamed on Zoom. The event will be followed by a discussion and an opportunity to talk with the speakers and other participants and network.
The “Brains behind the Tech” series is aimed at students, prospective students, companies and the interested public. Through this series, the university highlights how the Engineering Psychology and Human Factors programmes are applied in real-world projects and the diverse career paths that these degrees offer.
