Students at Furtwangen University organise annual rubber duck race
On Friday, 19 June, the Breg River will once again be bright yellow for the annual rubber duck race. The event is being organised by a seven-member project group of business information systems students from Furtwangen University (HFU). The organisation is part of the course “Project Management in Logistics,” so in addition to having fun, the students are also focusing on optimising the processes. This year, for the first time, participants can purchase duck tickets online and receive them via email.
More than 1,400 rubber duckies will set off at 3.30pm from the bridge at Rößleplatz/Coelestine-Eisele-Straße in Furtwangen. The race ends at the Baumannstraße bridge near the Furtwangen Campus Church. At the finish, the ducks are herded through a narrow passage so that only one duck at a time swims through the finish line and is registered.
The project also involves organising sponsorship for a variety of prizes, provided by regional companies. On the https://entenrennen-furtwangen.de website, race participants can check the ducks’ rankings on race day and view the prizes.
A ticket for a duck costs €2.50 and all proceeds from sales go to the Bregtal Children’s Fund. Tickets can be purchased online via the website or at various sales locations in Furtwangen: Pizza Point Furtwangen, Mory’s Hofbuchhandlung and Papeterie Besenfelder.
