CoHMed connects research and industry
The Tuttlingen campus of Furtwangen University recently served as an international gathering place for professionals from the fields of research, development and industry. Scientists from various countries, as well as experts in biosensor technology, environmental technology, thin-film technology, surface technology and medical technology, participated in the two-day event. The workshop “Designing Interfaces – Innovations in Biosensor & Environmental Technology and Applications” was organised by the European Research Society for Thin Films (EFDS) with our university serving as the host institution. Internal link opens in the same window:Professor Dr. Christoph Reich, HFU Vice-President for Research and Sustainability, opened the conference underlining the strategic role of the workshop for the university. The two-day programme featured technical presentations, poster sessions, discussions and numerous networking opportunities. The focus was on biosensor and microsystem solutions, photonic sensing, lab-on-a-chip approaches, plasma and coating technologies, as well as applications in diagnostics, environmental analysis, and industrial process monitoring. Beyond the conference programme, some participants accepted the invitation from Prof. Dr.-Ing. Alfons Dehé, Director of the Hahn-Schickard Institute in Villingen-Schwenningen to visit the long-standing CoHMed partner on-site. Technical presentations and a tour of the research and development infrastructure provided direct insights into the microsystems technology conducted there. The visit deepened technical understanding and created concrete points of contact for further international networking in the fields of sensor technology and medical technology.
The event highlights the importance of exchange at the intersections of materials science, sensor technology, microfluidics, coating technologies and medical applications. It is precisely where new sensor solutions, functional surfaces and intelligent interfaces are emerging that scientific research, industrial development and application-oriented validation are closely intertwined. Numerous new opportunities for collaboration between academia, industry and regional innovation stakeholders emerged during one-on-one discussions.
The international EFDS workshop held on the Tuttlingen campus sent a strong signal in support of academic exchange, technology transfer and industry-oriented networking. In this way, the event aligns with CoHMed’s goal of highlighting research, development and regional innovation potential in the field of medical technology and fostering long-term connections.
