Robin Mayer, a student on the HFU Tuttlingen Campus, prevailed against a field of international applicants and will now travel to Singapore for a research stay with a scholarship.
Furtwangen University master's student wins scholarship and research fellowship in Singapore
An extraordinary adventure is about to begin for Robin Mayer; the 23-year-old student, enrolled in the “Human Factors” master’s programme at Furtwangen University (HFU), will travel to Singapore to study at the National University of Singapore (NUS) as the first exchange student from HFU under a new partnership.
During his research stay, Mayer will be able to work at the School of Computing there and, among other things, contribute to current research projects at the Augmented Human Lab. Over 1,700 applicants had applied for the scholarship that makes this unique opportunity possible. The scholarship is worth 5,000 Singapore dollars, includes several on-site workshops, and covers a ten-week stay.
After submitting his application, everything happened very quickly, “I received the acceptance in March, and now I’m flying out this week − I still can’t quite believe my luck,” says Robin Mayer. In his application, the Singen native described his interest in the topic of human-machine interaction and is now looking forward to gaining entirely new insights on the subject in Singapore.
NUS is considered a leading university in Asia, ranking among the top universities worldwide. The collaboration was made possible through the personal connections of HFU Professor Dr. Jochen Huber, who used his 2025 research semester to work on the topic of affective user interfaces in Singapore. “We are absolutely delighted that Robin was able to stand out among a field of international applicants; this demonstrates the high level of achievement among our students in the field of human factors,” says Huber, whose teaching focus is human-computer interaction. He lectures at HFU in Faculty II: Engineering & Technology, in the Department of Applied Computer Science.
Robin Mayer can hardly wait to embark on his study trip. He will be sharing his impressions on the university’s Instagram channel (@hs-furtwangen).
