Exchange on virtual reality and related topics
An unusual coffee morning recently took place at our study center in Freiburg. The “Immersive Media in Research and Teaching” Courage Hub (IMeRT@HFU) hosted the first “IMeRT Café.” The meeting was intended for all HFU employees who are currently using virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), extended reality (XR), or 3D audio in research or teaching projects. IMeRT@HFU offers a platform for mutual professional support, cross-faculty hardware exchange, and the joint development of research ideas and submission of research proposals. External project partners are also regularly invited to participate.
In addition to presentations of current HFU projects and demos, the café also featured a talk by Prof. Nikolaus Hottong. He reported on possible decision-making criteria for the development environments of VR/AR projects. Participants also discussed typical problems such as current VR headsets, cybersickness and methodological pitfalls in VR-based tests. All participants agreed to repeat the event on a regular basis.
The aim of the HFU Courage Hubs is to network innovative topics in an agile manner across our university locations.
