Furtwangen University has close connections to sport, particularly elite sport. The proximity to Freiburg and the Freiburg-Schwarzwald Olympic Support Centre provides ideal conditions for athletes to be able to pursue both high performance sport and academic study. Georg Hettich is a very successful example of this dual career model.
In the first lecture of the Executive MBA "Best Practices" lecture series in the Winter Semester 2019/20, the HFU Business School is delighted to present Georg Hettich, an outstanding athlete and graduate of this University. In his lecture, "My path to olympic success". How success strategies from high performance sport can be carried over into working life, Dr. Georg Hettich demonstrates connections between his career as an elite athlete and his professional career.

Georg Hettich, Olympic gold medalist in the Nordic Combination in 2006, winner of a total of 4 olympic medals and of many national and international titles and competitions, describes in his fascinating and entertaining lecture, his path to success, the ups and downs he experienced, how he always managed to remotivate himself, and how he was able to carry these strategies over into his professional life.
Georg Hettich studied "Medical Engineering on the Schwenningen Campus. During the Winter Semester he was a competitive athlete, and in the Summer Semester he continued his academic studies. After graduating top in his year in 2007, he did his doctorate in Freiburg, and since 2015 has been working as a research engineer at Aesculap in Tuttlingen.
Executive MBA program
Furtwangen University has been offering the part-time Executive MBA program since 2003. The "Best Practices" lecture series is an integral part of this English-speaking program which focuses on General Management.
Anyone considering taking a master's degree in Management or who is interested in the lecture topic, is invited to attend. The informal get-together at the buffet will give you an opportunity to gain a first-hand impression of the quality of our study program and to find out more about it from current students and lecturers.
