IMeRT Hub

Ideas for new realities

At the "Immersive Media in Research and Teaching (IMeRT) Courage Hub, we connect across locations and faculties researchers and teachers who work together on theoretical and practical questions on a wide range of topics, such as:

  • Mixed Reality (MR)
  • Virtual Reality (VR)
  • Augmented Reality (AR)
  • 3D audio environments

We offer a platform for joint projects, research, communication, and the use of resources and infrastructure. IMeRT brings together expertise in research, development and teaching in the field of extended reality at our locations in Furtwangen, Schwenningen, Freiburg and Tuttlingen.

We are also the central point of contact for industry partners, companies and institutions seeking collaboration in the field of immersive media.

  • Joint projects Do you have an innovative idea and want to develop it further? We offer a place for exchange and collaboration.
  • Support from students We are happy to provide bachelor's and master's students to assist you with your research questions in the field of extended reality.
  • Networks We host regular events such as the “Immersive Café,” where we offer informal discussions on all topics related to extended reality. Become part of this regional network!

Let’s pool our collective expertise from teaching and research, along with our resources, and create something new! #IMeRT@HFU

Our focus

The IMeRT Hub addresses current issues relating to immersive media, develops innovative approaches, and maintains continuous exchange. The focus is on research and teaching in order to generate, apply, and pass on knowledge.

Research

In our research, we continuously engage with current technologies and develop our own solutions based on the latest scientific findings. Through close collaboration within the network and with partners from industry, companies and institutions, the IMeRT Hub remains connected and informed.

Teaching

We have extensive teaching experience and know how to convey extended reality skills in a clear and practical way. We use XR in a variety of ways in our teaching. Open to new ideas, we are constantly developing innovative projects and contemporary learning formats.

Teaching3D research project

One example project combining teaching and research is the use of 3D technologies that make learning complex spatial content more vivid and accessible. The Teaching3D project uses time-of-flight cameras to capture teachers in 3D. This allows virtual 3D models of the teachers to be created in real time.

HuFacin_VR research project

This project investigates the extent to which simply wearing a VR headset can induce stress, thereby making an important contribution to VR stress research. In a pilot study, young adults were tested in both a VR environment and a comparable screen-based environment, with stress measured using biometric data, questionnaires and additional headset sensor data.
