Organic Chemistry Synthesis Lab
This lab is mostly used for coursework, practical work and thesis work based on organic chemistry, as well as practicals in the area of chemical analysis and physical chemistry.
Areas of activity and equipment
- Synthesis extraction for preparative chemistry
- Workplaces for reconditioning of organic syntheses using various techniques
- Liquid/liquid extraction
- Rotary evaporator
- Flash and column chromatography
It is also possible to carry out synthesis with shielding gases, with which oxygen and water-sensitive chemical products can be produced (the so-called Schlenk technique).
Methods of analysis
The standard simple methods of analysis such as:
- Fusion point measurement
are supplemented with a benchtop NMR tool from Magritek (Spinsolve 60 Carbon). Besides structure elucidation using 1D- (1H, 13C, 19F) and 2D methods (homo- and heteronuclear), the quantification of chemical bonding in samples is also possible (e.g. quantification of ethanol in vermented mash).
