Hack2Improve

Hack2Improve is a workshop offered by the Faculty of Computer Science. It is primarily aimed at computer science students, but is open to all students with a relevant background.

It is a one-day event for which students can apply. The event is offered in cooperation with a company that is active in the field of IT security awareness. The objectives and content are defined by our cooperation partner and the workshop is conducted by the relevant people from the field. In order for this event to be useful, technical and professional requirements must be met.

Hack2Improve 2023 - IT security awareness

The last workshop took place on 17 November, 2023

Our cooperation partner is Kramer & Crew GmbH with headquarters in Cologne. As an IT director, the company offers services for detecting security gaps, identifying potential risks and eliminating vulnerabilities. The upcoming workshop will therefore take a playful look at both aspects, attack and defense.

Computers have become an integral part of modern life - we are now networked with others worldwide via mobile systems. Headlines about data attacks therefore make many a user's brow sweat. With increasing networking and growing complexity, will computer scientists still be able to master the systems of the future? Only computer scientists who have learned how computer hackers work in reality can guarantee the security of networked IT systems.

Since 2008, the Faculty of Computer Science, together with partner companies, has held an annual one- or two-day Hack2Improve workshop with different focuses. In exciting workshops with a high practical component, the aim is to consider both technical and organizational security aspects. Participants have the opportunity to try out real-life scenarios and legally slip into the role of "cyber criminals". In the workshops, experts from the industry will report on the latest developments in the field of computer security. The Hack2Improve events raise participants' awareness so that they can use new technologies responsibly in their professional practice.
