Spectacular “Fires and explosions” training event on occupational health and safety
Together with the South Baden regional group of the VDSI - Verband für Sicherheit, Gesundheit und Umweltschutz bei der Arbeit e.V., Furtwangen University is organising a joint training event on Friday, 6 Decembe r− this time with a very special experimental lecture on “Fires and Explosions”. The programme will be supplemented in the afternoon with further lectures on occupational safety, in particular on personal protective equipment.
The cooperation between the VDSI and the Security & Safety Engineering bachelor's programme and the Risk, Reliability and Safety Engineering master's programme at Furtwangen University has been taking place for many years. In addition to the purely technical content, these events supplement the curriculum and are also intended to promote the exchange between experts who are active in occupational safety and the prospective safety engineers. Among other things, the collaboration has already produced a number of final theses.
The experimental lecture will illustrate various topics relating to fire protection, explosion protection, handling hazardous substances and risk assessment. This will further support practical training in the two degree courses. Speaker Prof. Dr. Bernd Scheel travels all over Germany with his equipment for the demonstration experiments and spans the arc from the laboratory situation to real everyday operations in a practical way. The aim is to identify fire and explosion risks and make them understandable so that preventative measures can be developed at an early stage.
The Security & Safety Engineering and Risk, Reliability and Safety Engineering programmes are unique in Germany in terms of their curriculum. HFU graduates successfully find jobs in industry, administration, the fire department and aid organisations. With around 5600 members, the VDSI is the largest professional association for safety and health at work in Germany and one of the largest in Europe.
The lecture will take place on 6 December starting at 9.00am in Room 0.10 in Building O (Luisenstraße 17) on the Furtwangen campus. The event is aimed at occupational safety specialists (VDSI members) and students. Interested guests can attend by registering in advance with arno.weber(at)hs-furtwangen.de.
