Bilingual university
In order to give students the best possible chances on the job market, Furtwangen University is constantly increasing the number of bilingual study programmes offered. Besides subject knowledge, students also gain the European language proficiency level of "C1" by taking lectures in two languages, and doing internships, study semesters and even their thesis abroad in English.

Creating competitive advantage
German students who achieve the C1 level of the Common European Framework for Languages (CEF) in English have a clear advantage over the competition and are in demand with international companies. Foreign students who take a bilingual degree at HFU and achieve this level in German, are well-prepared for entry into the German workplace. "Foreign languages and intercultural competence are increasingly important for companies of all sizes," says Prof. Dr. Michael Lederer, Vice President International and Executive Learning.
Funding of €1 million
In October 2020 Furtwangen University was awarded a total of €1 million for the expansion of its bilingual programme over the "HAW.International" funding programme of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). With this programme the DAAD not only wants to support students in preparing to enter the global job market, it will also promote the University's strategy of internationalisation at all levels.
